when do persimmon start producing?

By

Im scouting for a good hunting spot for bow season and i found a big persimmon next to a waterhole and a wide field. It looks like they have been crossing there but im not sure if the persimmon is producing i dont need to know when they r ripe i just need to kno when the tree starts makin them so i can tell if its a producer. O if you need to know my camp is in Louisiana next to the Mississippi river thanks

Should already have fruit on it if its is a persimmon tree. The fruit should be of good size but still green

I love em nice and ripe but a green persimmon is worse than a habinaro pepper when its green lol

deer usually won’t touch them until after a few good frosts. sometimes they skip a year or two in production. green persimmon wine is excellent.

As an avid Bowhunter myself of some odd 30+ years, I agree that there should be “green” fruit right now showing on the tree if in fact it’s a Persimmon. Deer would usuallly climb over each other to get to the fruit or eat the young ends off of limbs. I would think there would be a ton of “sign” on the ground around the tree. I have already scouted a few spots here in Maryland and Virginia and both areas had Persimmon trees with fruit. Every thing that a Deer could reach was gone(already eatten and tons of track) and only Persimmons higher in the tree’s were left. I don’t know what else I can tell you at this point.

I have seen some trees produce when they are 15 feet tall. Usually when the bark turns rough and dark the tree is mature enough to produce fruit.

They will be green now get some binoculars and look for fruit on the tree near the ends of the limbs
