What’s the procedure for bringing a rifle into Canada?
ByMy husband is a hunter (antelope, elk) and since we’ll be living in WA soon, he’d like to know if/how he can bring rifles into Canada for a hunting trip since guns are highly regulated there.

I asked the same question two years ago, when I planned to drive through Canada to Alaska….I was told to go to the US Customs office near my home, and declare the weapon with them, and they would check the legality of the ownership, and if it cleared, I would be issued papers that gave me the right to take the weapon out of the country….Canada has a customs form also, and I had to state which border crossing I would use, and on what date, and the Canadian papers would be at the crossing, and I would have the American papers, and the two would have to be kept with the weapon while it was on Canadian soil…..I decided that a nine day drive to Alaska, and all the paper work would be too much of a hassle, so I flew…..And Continental Airlines lost my rifle…But I did get it back the next day…..
