What should my next gun purchase be?

By

More of an opinion question really but I really want some advice on what my next gun should be. I currently have three Remington 870′s (2×12 Gauge Super Magnums, one 20 gauge), a Norinco SKS, and Remington 700 in .270 with an older Leupold Vari-X scope hanging on my bedroom wall. I’m nineteen years old and live in Virginia. The only guns that technically belong to me are the SKS and the 20 gauge 870. The rest all belong to my dad and I hunt occasionly and have all my duck, rabbit, squirrel, and whitetail needs covered.

My question is what type of firearm should I get that is under $400-$600 in price. I enjoy all kinds of shooting but am most experienced with shooting milsurp rifles and 100-200 yard hunting and target shooting. I was strongly considering picking up a Mosin Nagant just for the sake of adding to my ComBloc collection of military rifles. Next would be the AK which i could potentially get both for $600, 100 for the Mosin and 500 for the AK. I have also flipped around the idea of a Springfield XD or shelling out the big bucks and building my own AR for $1000. I’m open to any suggestions from those of you who have a favorite gun or have faced a similar situation as me.
Also in VA it’s legal for me to posses a handgun just not to purchase one. My dad would be more than willing to buy me any handgun I wanted and I have numerous friends I could have buy me ammo. So handguns are part of the picture as well
I cannot afford to pay 10,000 dollars plus all the title II paper work and the 200 dollar tax stamp for an M16 and as much as I love the SCAR-H i believe they cost about 2,500 to 3000 dollars. Remember $400-$600
I have six 22lr’s. A pump action, a semi auto rifle, two bolt actions, and for pistols a revolver and an automatic. Also no more shotguns
Seth just reminded me I’m also very interested in a marlin lever action or any other brand someone can recommend

M16! Its a noob weapon though

Yugo M70AB2. Get the chicom stock not synthetic, the newer models with black synthetic stocks are hard to find a good one, no quality control with the demand levels now.

EDIT: To add to Seth’s lever action list, a Marlin 336cs in.30-.30, that was my first rifle, still have it, love it.

get like a .45 round bolt action rifle or lever action i have both i cant remember the bolt actions name its a ww2 german rifle im not german and the lever action is a smith and western both work very great and i love the feeling of the bolt action rifle the pulling on the bold releasing the bullet and putting in the new on in the chamber it feels great

I would think that 22LR would be a nice addition. You can shoot all day for one $15 bulk pack and have some left over.

Get a cheap milsurp rifle of some kind. From my experience, I would recommend an Arisaka type 99. They are accurate, have great sights, are the simplest rifle to field strip, are loaded with history and can be had for under 300 dollars. They are way better than mosins. They are chambered in 7.7 jap which is more available than it used to be. They will only go up in value (they have been in the past few years, 5 years ago I can remember they were about 120-150 bucks).

I would go for a Marlin Big Boy lever action rifle in .357/.38 special or .45 LC. I’m a huge fan of lever action rifles as fun to shoot guns. A Ruger Vaquero would be a nice addition too though.

Mosin Nagant 91/30. Well under your price range and is chambered in 7.62x54R.

Yugo Mauser M24/47. On sale, they go for only $200, and they are very similar to the more expensive German k98 . they are chambered in 8mm Mauser so it’s cheap to shoot, roughly $33 for 100 surplus rounds

Get yourself a badas$ .45 pistol. I personally like the m1911. Nothing says happy early birthday like the power to take down anyone who says that you shouldn’t have the right to own that.

Ruger 10/22 or Mosin Nagant of any variation. The ruger just because it is so modular and such a good introduction to weapons customization. I have had one since I was sixteen, and have been adding on to it for years. It now has the body of an AK, laser, flashlight, 30 round mags, collapsible buttstock, and a rotary add on for the trigger. Lets just say that I am still not bored with it because I’m not done building onto it yet.

Or you could get yourself a Mosin Nagant. It is a great peice of military history and very inexpensive. And if you have ever seen Enemy at the Gates, you already know of it’s legendary status as the weapon of choice for Soviet snipers. It shouldnt run more than 125 bucks (if it does and doesnt come with accessories, you are getting ripped off) and is in my opinion the greatest battle rifle ever made.
