Timber I am from Texas and from experience I can tell you that Feral hogs have become quite a problem. Because of this, the State of Texas allows Hunters to a year round season on hogs. You asked what time of the year is the best time. The answer is anytime you have the opportunity to hunt these pesky critters is. They are unlike any other creature in that they are so prolific in their numbers that any attempt to manage them has met with failure. One female sow can produce up to one thousand piglets in a five year period. For example unlike wild turkey which are best hunted during their mating season, when the males lose all sense of caution, hogs mate year round. Feral hogs tend to be more active at night and so this is a great opportunity and a real experience you will never forget, By hunting wild hog you are actually helping with the ecology of the planet, because these creatures are actually a serious threat to the environment. Happy hunting.
There is no feral hog season in Texas. Usually they are hunted as a target of opportunity during deer season. Javalina season is year round with a bag limit of two. No bag limit on feral hog.
I’d probably avoid the 4-6 warmest months if at possible. There’s no sense in going down there only to have hogs hold up in the daytime and move only at night.

Year round in South Texas! That said, I have always had the best luck at dusk and dawn in clearings.
Have a good ‘un.
