Unfortunately, “good” rifles do not come cheap.
I would stick with a .22 caliber long-barrel (much better in my opinion), unless you’re looking for something else because it’s just not your thing.
If it’s a power and distance issue, look into a .22 Magnum rifle. They cost a little bit more, and the ammunition isn’t cheap, but its the best I can offer.

You’ll need at least a .270. Maybe $400.

Well, you MIGHT be able to find a very used, shot out, beat up .243 or .270 for about $250. I know of no rifle capable of harvesting deer for $200 new. The closest you might get in a quality rifle is a mossberg ATR-100, but you will need to buy a scope and youre going to be over $350.
Look for a used single shot shotgun in 12 ga or 20 ga. You can use slugs at close range and it wont need a scope. You can get a NEF (also H&R) Pardner for about $150. its decently made, should last a few seasons.

Handi rifles……..Other than a single shot you have used maybe for that price. Good new rifles are more than 200.00.
Mosin Nagant are cheap and good rifles…if you fine one with a good barrel. They are not tack drivers but, good for deer at 100yds maybe more.

This is kind of a tall order. As someone else said “good rifles don’t come cheap”…. having said that, there might be a light at the end of the rainbow.
Sometimes you can find a good used rifle with some cosmetic imperfections that fit into your budget.
Maybe a muzzle loader even??

This is just a representation of what’s out there.
There are always the used rifles at the local gun shops and there’s the big 3 auction sites.

Take your time and do a little searching and I think you will definitely find a good used rifle.

You might get a used 30-30 for $200.I was just looking at one at a local gun show for $220. and it was in good shape. You may want to look into a used shotgun with a rifled slug barrel. They are good for deer at 100 yards or less I hunt with one all the time.

you can buy a brand new rossi single shot with 2 interchangeable barrels of your choice for well under 200 dollars. rossi barrells to choose from are, 30-06, 243, 22, 20gauge, 410, 270,12gauge, 223. rossi is a well known and well liked gun by owners.they dont cost an arm and a leg but u get the same durability and quality as any other well built rifle.i believe the 2 pair starts at 140 and goes up in price depending on what barrells you want and the 3 set starts at 190. pretty dang cheap if you ask me. you wont find a better deal than that.

You should look into ww2 rifles you can get very good condition rifles like the enfield 308, mauser, ect for around your price range you just need to make sure you have it checked out by a gunsmith to make sure everything is ok and safe.

I was just looking around in the newspaper and saw a nice marlin 30-30 with scope for $250. I suggest you do the same. Check your local listings in newspapers or walmart.

Good Luck! The only legal gun you can find under $200 is the Mosin Nagant. Even then, you need to find it thru a dealer or the web. I got mine in mint condition thru my dealer for $120 (7.62X54cal) I looked yesterday at some local pawn shops and they have the same gun for over $250 in crappy condition. If you buy off the web, request that they pick the best gun in the batch and send to you. You’ll have to pay alittle extra but it’s worth it. When buying on web they grab a gun from a batch of 20 or 30 and you don’t know what your getting until it arrives at your house!
