What is a good rifle brand and caliber for starting off in target shooting?
ByI do not yet own any rifles but have wanted to get into target shooting for some time. My purpose isn’t really for hunting so I was wondering what caliber should I start out with to begin a hobby in target shooting. I eventually want to start shooting at longer ranges but was wondering if anyone had any advice for me.

I would say a Henry .22 rifle, just because I love their guns. Or, if you wanted a bit higher caliber gun you could also check out a .30-30

id say start off with a good 22lr. my personal favorit is the remington model 5… is very accurate affordable and if u put a leupold scope on it.. u cant get better.. its easy to handle and comes with a five round magazine… its the perfect starting rifle with low kick. if u want somthing stronger id have to say try a 204. ruger but ammo is cheaper for the 22. and u can shoot bout 50 yards with it.. the 204 will go to bout 120 yards.

I guess I’ll throw in my echo about the .22lr. The Ruger 10/22 is a great semi-auto.

if you’re not intending to hunt or kill anything it really doesn’t matter much your choice of caliber you just need to balance kickback, distance and skill.

Pick up a 22, the ammo is cheap. My favorite is the Marlin model 60 which you can get for around $140 or so. Don’t get a scope, learn to shoot with the iron sights first. Most ranges will have a 50 yard rimfire area which is perfect for learning. If you need some help, ask around at the range. Usually you’ll find someone who will gladly teach you the basics. Some ranges even offer classes for first timers.

A bolt-action rifle chambered for .22 Long Rifle cartridges, manufactured by either Marlin Firearms or Savage Arms. They’re great rifles that won’t break the bank. They’re accurate, reliable and easy to clean.
Take classes to learn proper shooting techniques and do further research on the subject by reading books and watching training videos.
And practice, practice and practice some more.

Savage Mark 2 in .22LR
inexpensive ammo makes for lots of practice,
low recoil and report makes practice comfortable,
savage mark 2 is a very accurate .22lr rifle that isn’t too expensive either.
Lower budgets- Marlin 925 is similar to the savage, same superb accuracy but a bit cheaper.

Good to start with?….. A .22 bolt action rifle…….
A CZ 452 chambered in .22LR is perfect…..
This CZ 452 Military training rifle is a nice choice……
Also look over the other CZ rifles here….
If you want a rifle that’s most likely available locally at your local gun shop then surely consider a Ruger 10/22… These aren’t what I would call super accurate. But they are popular and as common as the sky is blue……
