what are violations for not having hunter safety course?

My son was given a ticket for not having a hunter safety course. It was issued @ 8:20 pm while he was sitting in his truck, which was broken down on the side of the road. He and his friend were coming home from a weekend trip, with their fathers and 2 uncles, when he broke down. While waiting for their dads to turn around and come help, the game warden showed up and issued the citation then left. My son is 17 and was with his dad whenever he hunted, is this a justifiable ticket?
I forgot to mention we are in texas and my son only bow hunts, no guns in his truck at all.

if he was in possession of the guns, it is possible that the warden seen that he was in violation of the law, but it seems strange that the warden didn’t take the guns too, cause if he was in possession of the guns without the card, the warden should have taken the guns without question, people can be weird sometimes, just brush it off and leave it be, you mostly likely can’t do anything about this anyways.

You failed to mention what state and if he had a loaded gun in his posession.

This is a really good opportunity for your son to see how the justice system works. Please take this opportunity to bring him to court and make a fool out of the warden. And if it turns out your son said something that prompted the ticket – it will teach him to keep his mouth shut.

Only good will come of this!

I agree with Glacier. This sounds like a case of an A-hole warden or a mouthy teenager. Maybe a little of both. Either way I would take it to court.

But it is still a good idea for everybody that hunts to take a hunter’s education course.
