]]> Discovery Network:
- Planet Green used to actually have relevant environmental/natural/living healthy programs. Now it’s about Egyptology, mummies, bone detectives, and anything else Discovery can’t find a home for.
- Discovery Channel used to have a variety. Now aside from Mythbusters, it’s apocalypse shows and shows geared toward the he-men viewer. Ice fishing, sword fishing, spear fishing, 5 logging shows, hillbilly stuff.
- Animal planet actually used to feature animals. Now it features people hunting or being hurt/scared by animals. Bigfoot hunters, cryptozoology garbage, hillbilly shows (it seems to be this year’s theme, at least Discovery’s gotten off the midget shows), snake hunters (Steve Irwin is rolling in his grave) which also generally fits under hillbilles, backwoods law enforcement, and animal attacks. Animal cops reruns are still on, but that’s still all people rather than animals. The only conservation or pet stuff is only early mornings, if at all.
- ID is all fearmongering and “THIS WILL HAPPEN TO YOU! EVIL IS EVERYWHERE!” stuff.
- TLC is even worse than it’s always been.

National Geographic has:
- Hillbilly/rural America stuff
- Doomsday stuff
- Drug stuff
- Prison stuff

The History Channel doesn’t deserve it’s name any more. There’s no history on there. There’s MORE hillbilly shows, and when it’s not hillbillies, it’s Hysteria (apocalypse, Bible crap, doomsday prepping and disaster) and Hitler.

Who the hell owns these networks, FOX? And why has all the science, nature and general interest been replaced with hillbillies and doomsday shows? Has the public demanded this? Do we now have such a low IQ population that the only way these networks – whose aim used to be to provide educational and stimulating programming – can survive is to put on stuff about hillbillies and doomsday? Is it a budget problem and the only solution is to give cameras to idiots who will work for nothing since it’s better than McDonalds, where these people MIGHT be just intelligent enough to work otherwise? Where have all the shows BBC used to make for/with Discovery gone?
@ArthurD: Not that it’s relevant to anything, but the Bible is not the oldest text to date. Not by a LONG, long way. IIRC, the oldest known text is in Sumerian and was written well over 3000 years BCE.
