]]> I’ve been told that anyone over 16 fishing on a private field into a private pond needs fishing license. i’ve been fishing there for 4 years now with verbal permission and not once was stopped coming or going from the pond by the cops or game warden. do i need them or not? also do you need license to hunt someones private property after receiving verbal permission.

]]> Hi, Fishing section. I’m a transient over from Hunting.

I have a question about fishing line.
I use Berkley Trilene XL Smooth Casting 10 lb monofilament.
(10 lb is a bit much for walleye & bass I know, but I fish areas with a bunch of snags)
Every year I buy a new spool and throw last year’s away. I buy the 330 yard package, and I maybe use half of it in a season.
In the off season I store all of my fishing gear in an unheated shed, where the temps get pretty cold, down to single digits and below zero.
My question is, does the cold hurt the fishing line or is it ok? Am I wasting my money every year by tossing last year’s leftover line?
I leave the spool inside the box it comes in so it doesn’t get beat up and nicked or frayed bouncing around in my tackle box.
Here in New York our walleye opener is right around the corner & it’s time to prep my gear.

I respool my poles regardless, because my line takes a beating fishing along rocks & a concrete pier.

Edit: Let me clarify – sorry for the foggy details.
The temps dip as low as single digits & below, it’s not that cold constantly. A lot of times it’s in the 20′s-ish. In a cold snap we may get double digits below zero on occasion.

I’m in Central NY and do most of my fishing on the Eastern end of Oneida Lake.

Here are some still shots of Chevak, AK. Chevak is a bush (rural) village about 15 miles east of the Bering Sea. The closest villages are Hooper Bay and Scammon Bay, both about 20 miles. From Anchorage you fly to Bethel the hub community and from there head to Chevak. The River and Sea are extremely important to the lively hood of the Cup’ik people that live here. Tundra, berries, moose, seal, Fish, and other native foods along with the local grocery stores all help these people survive. Chevak is a friendly village and is a beautiful place to be!!! As long as you can handle the treeless tundra. And contrary to outsiders beliefs about everywhere in Alaska, the sun rises and sets everyday even in the winter here in Chevak.
