I learned a neat trick this year while butchering sheep – prior to gutting, make a small incision in the hock area on one of the back legs, then insert air compressor hose. The animal will blow up like a Macy’s parade balloon. This helps to separate the skin from the flesh, and makes skinning quite easy.

there not too much of a problem once it cools off up here. usualy the only thing i shoot that is covered in ticks are spring/summer coyotes

Well maybe by having a more rounded point you have a lesser chance of puncturing where you don’t want to and cutting the membranes will be easier.
