Should concealabe weapons like pistols and military weapons be banned from all private citizens?
ByWith hunting rifles being the only type of weapons still allowed.
I always hear conservatives claim we can’t use gun control because:
1, it violates the 2nd amendment
2, people need guns to protect their homes and protect themselves against the government
3, certain sickos enjoy the senseless killing of animals for sport and need guns to do so
4, there is no reason a law abiding citizen should not have a gun
5, criminals will still be able to get a hold of guns
let me elaborate:
1. If the government restricts the sale of all weapons except for rifles the 2nd amendment it not being violated. The amendment states we have the “right to bear arms.” It does not specify what type of arms, and rifles are a type of arms. Using the 2nd amendment argument against my point is like saying people have the right to decide which particular courtroom they want to be in for their trial because they’re allowed to have trial for their crimes.
2. With a rifle one is perfectly capable of defending their home from invaders. Who needs a 9mm or an Ak-47 to defend themselves from a burglar? No one. Rifles work just fine; there is no need to have a concealed or military weapon to defend your home.
3. Those weirdos will still be able to kill all the animals they like with rifles.
4. If it were that simple I wouldn’t be advocating gun control laws. But until conservatives come up with a test that will 100% accurately determine who is and will be for the rest of their life a law abiding citizen and who isn’t so we know who we can sell guns to, that argument is fruitless.
5. True, they’ll be able to get a hold of guns whether we enact gun control laws or not. But going back to points two and three, the only reason a law abiding citizen would need a gun would be for protection or recreational purposes, and one can still protect their homes from criminals and hunt with rifles.
So then why have gun control laws? Because not ALL criminals have ties to organized crime where they can purchase illegal guns. And in fact, many shootings are accidental. In cases like the Columbine HS shooting, the shooters only had guns because they stole them from their parents or lax control laws allowed them to buy them easily; they didn’t have any ties whatsoever to organized crime and so if gun control laws were in place they wouldn’t have had any guns.
You see where I’m going with this, I don’t feel like extending it any further, I’m sure you can connect those final few dots.
Pied: elaborate, obviously. Don’t just say “yes” or “no” unless you’re speaking with emotion rather than reason.
Edward: I covered that in the post.

DC Gunban case will seal your fate. Until you repack the court.

No, they should not. The government has no right to infringe on the right to bear arms.

yes..every citizen should be a public citizen and then they will be able to own any weapon they want..private citizens should be out lawed..only a private citizen know thier real name ..they dont have ID cards that are issued by the goverment..so it should only be public citizens that have IDs issued by the goverment that should have the right to own weapons and the right to enjoy the Bill of rights as well..all private citizens should be cast out of America..

To answer your question;
No, have you ever noticed that the highest rate of gun crimes are in areas of the strictest gun control laws. Restricting guns actually increases your chances of being a victim of gun violence. Since the bad guys know they are the only ones who have guns.

Why are liberals so quick to give up everyone elses freedoms?

Ahhh… Hell no! If that day ever comes to pass, expect to lose your freedom of speech soon after.
To counter your points:
1. It says “well armed militia”. If you understand that the 2nd amendment is a safety net to allow citizens to retake government if needed, you cannot reasonably conclude that musket-wielding citizens are “well-armed” against current day weaponry. Certainly limits should be applied but the question is where is the cut-off. A rocket launcher or full-auto is an obvious extreme; a simple semi-automatic sidearm or rifle is not.
2. Based on your opinion, you would suggest citizens keep a rifle tucked under the bed with ammunition nearby in case they are attacked? What about protecting children? Or does the rifle have to be locked in a gun case/safe and you have to try and sneak to it when an intruder is in your home? I’m not sure I understand your logic but as someone who believes we have the right to have a handgun, if, god forbid, I ever had to defend myself in my home I would much rather use a handgun so that I stop someone with less odds of killing them versus putting a 4-inch hole in them with a hunting rifle. Additionally, a 9mm or AK47 are not “concealed” weapons or “military” weapons. And it goes back to point #1, “well armed”, not solely for personal protection although those weapons do provide that as well. No offense but you’re trying to make a bad point but stretching reality.
3. While I stopped hunting many years ago, I still eat meat that was hunted for and that’s part of the reason many people do hunt. Call them “weirdo’s” if it helps you sleep at night but I fail to see why this point was included in your list outside of saying you can’t shoot a squirrel or rabbit with the shotgun/rifle you have for hunting deer. Many people carry small caliber sidearm.
4. You are not advocating gun control laws; you appear to be advocating even more laws because your mindset is one that says “crime is still happening so these laws must not be enough” without considering that maybe those laws go completely ignored by criminals and will never help. I will agree with you on one minor point. Not every citizen should have a gun. No way! If they don’t feel comfortable around them and refuse to be trained and educated in use and how to respect the weapon, they should never, ever own one. And you are correct in that there is no way to know who will ever snap and do something horrible. Check history and you’ll find people killed with knifes, forks, fire, electricity and cars. Should we all eat raw food with our hands in the dark after walking home from work? That would have stopped those crimes! Maybe we should consider it.
5. You confuse me. You agree but then spin it back toward something else you disagree with to make it seem like this point is disagreeable too. That’s called “spin” but I’ll ignore it and try to address your point. First off, you mention “organized crime” and it makes me laugh. Do you think gang bangers get weapons from the mob? No, they get them from someone who stole them! If laws always prevented crime, they wouldn’t have stole the gun in the first place let alone made (illegal) use of it later.
Where you hit a low point in your argument is school shootings. Believe me, NOBODY who supports gun ownership in the US finds that crap acceptable and excusable. NOBODY! And you know this. Had these people not committed suicide and been tried in court, they would have been found to be insane or having a mentally illness that contributed to their actions.
As a society we can not make the world one giant rubber/padded room to protect us from the actions of those people. Those same ill persons could take your life with a list of everyday objects ranging from a baseball bat to a tire iron to a well-aimed punch in the proper place. You cannot protect yourself from unexplainable evil by fearing everything in the world. That seems to be the objective here: I fear the actions of these people and the potential of people like them so I think we should do away with anything that could cause us harm.
Who ever expected planes to be used for terrorism? Should we now outlaw flying and seize all aircraft to protect us? If your position on handguns in firm, you would have to apply it to here also and agree that flying should be banned. Silly huh?
The key isn’t banning items or removing them from society, it’s educating ourselves to detect these ill citizens before they can act. There are always signs and they’re always talked about AFTER a tragedy instead of acted on BEFORE the tragedy.
If you are open-minded, I invite you to look into the studies done on crime rates in RTC (right-to-carry) states. The FBI has a pretty good one actually. If you read it and try to remain neutral, you’ll likely understand the difference between a “hard target” and “soft target” and how it clearly deters crime including loony people looking to commit murder out of rage or illness.

No! The weapons aren’t the problem, its the person carrying them.There is nothing wrong with good, honest citizens having pistols and military weapons. The government has to approve you for a pistol and a military weapon, so not just anyone can go and get one. Besides the people would still find a way to get military weapons. My husband owns both, and I am all for it.
