r there any felony convictions in Texas that do not take away your right to vote and possess firearms to hunt?
I was convicted of felony non payment of child support 7 or 8 years ago. I was sentenced to one year in jail. Since I have been out I have made all current payments and back payments. I have not missed one. LEARNED MY LESSON !!! I have been told not that there are certain felonies that do not take away your civil rights. Does anyone know for sure about Texas law? I want to be able to hunt and vote and want to make sure that I do things the right way.

Sorry, federal law overrides Texas law. Under federal law, any felony conviction removes your right to keep and bear arms forever. You may be able to get your voting rights back. That’s up to the state.
Some congressmen have proposed laws that would allow restoration of the right to keep and bear arms after a suitable period of clean living, but nothing has come of it to date.
Sorry about that.
