National Geographic “Whale Hunters”?

This show is about people in Alaska who hunt whales, correct? I thought National Geographic was for the protection of endangered animals? I’m just a bit confused. Is this a new or old show? The title description sounded like a pilot episode but I’ve never heard of it before. Am I the only one confused as to why they are not getting death threats for showing this? Explanation much appreciated.

    its a couple months old
and no, national geographic is the education of cultures and the earth and universe
it’s part of their history, and the show studies that ancient bond between the men and the hunting of whales.

Native Alaskans maintain the cultural right to hunt a specific number of whales annually. National Geographic is simply educating people about those native people and their traditional hunt.

I know it is difficult to look beyond the life of the animal itself, but these are freedoms and traditions held by these natives.
