Mossberg 100 ATR Reviews?
ByI’m looking at buying the Mossberg 100 ATR Night Train Short Action Scoped combo. It’s chambered in a .308 round and I’m interested in it for target shooting and medium to large game hunting. I know this is a suitable rifle for both but I’m looking for people who own this gun or anyone who has a similar rifle from Mossberg. Any reviews, good or bad, are more than welcome.

If it’s anything like other Mossberg firearms, it’s going to be loose where ever the construction of the rifle will allow. I’m not saying that it’s a substandard rifle. I have no experience with it. I just know that all the other Mossberg firearms don’t seem to be fitted as tightly as they could be. They’re functional, and to some folks that’s all that counts.

My son has one… I have fired it a few times and heres my observations…. Its fine for hunting deer, hog and other critters…. For target shooting its not that hot…. My son and I were only able to get 1 to 1 1/4 inch groups at 100 yards using bulk FMJ .308 brass…..
If you want this for target Competition then surely pass on this rifle..
For plain old hunting deer or hogs it works perfectly fine… When you put one thru the lungs it doesn’t make one bit of difference of whether the bullets 1 inch up, 1 inch down or 1 inch to the left of where the cross-hairs are — its dead!!!
For target shooting I should point something out….. What kind of target shooting do you want to do??? When I target shoot 100 or more yards I shoot steel plates…. I set up 8, 12 and 15 inch steel plates at various distances beyond 100 yards…. This rifle is perfectly adequate for that…. If on the other hand you are trying to do sub MOA target shooting with a Mossberg 100-ATR it ain’t going to happen….
If your on a limited budget you sure cant go wrong at the price these go for…. If this is the first .308 rifle you are going to buy and the monies burning a hole in your pocket then sure consider it…. This probably wont be the last rifle you will ever own… The nice thing about this rifle is the ammo is cheap, cheap, cheap in bulk….. .270, .243 and 30-06 are expensive…
.308 ammo at the Armory.com…..
Mossberg 100-ATR….. About $400 in my area… The regular scoped combo .308 with no bipod was on sale at $299 near me…. Cant beat that price…

“Only” able to get 1 1/4″ with the cheapest ammo on the market?
Most rifles can’t get 1 1/4″ with ANY ammo.
The ATR is actually a very good rifle for the weekend warrior. You’ll never impress people with the brand or the looks. But you’ll know that it’s perfectly capable of doing whatever you need to do with it.

My dad and brother both bought one about the same time and the sucked they could not get a good group out of them for nothing so the ended up getting rid of them and buying a rem 700 and mosin nagant.
But these where the early guns about right when they came out so they may be better now. But i say go with Savage or Rem 700.
