Me and my friend’s are going to take a roadtrip?

to Alaska from Penn Hills, Pa (near Pittsburgh).
How should we plan this as in what to bring, how long will it take, and what vehicle to use. There will be 4 or 5 of us. Also, we plan to do fishing and hunting, so are we allowed to bring guns?
i didn’t ask for dumbass answers.

Yes, bring your guns. I’m sure the Canadian boarder patrol will be delighted to see them.

I would definetly take an SUV because of the size and the ability to get through mountains etc. Take the route that you all agree on. I would say mostly highway, but a little backroads too. If you are renting a car I would suggest something with GPS that way you won’t be afraid to leave the off beaten path. Sorry I don’t know about the guns…I have one, but I’m not sure about if it is legal to carry in the car.

    Here’s informational links…will help alot.

    Hunting and fishing regulations:

    Passport:

    Firearms:
Note: Need special document for more than 3 firearms in Canada. Need legal docs….Travel with unloaded weapons and keep ammo in different location than weapons.

Gas Stations may be closed at night:

Make a Checklist of all possibly needed items…(no alcohol)
First Aid kit, Road kit w/flashlight and spare batteries, spare tires, lug wrench, locking lugnut adaptor, heavyweight car jack, water for vehicle, extra windshield cleaner, Paper towels, toilet paper, toothbrush etc..CB and shortwave radio…note: cell phones are’nt reliable..many dead spaces..a CB could help save your life in the event of an emergency……maps, food, drinks, insect repellant, can opener, medicines w/labels, birth certificates, passports, car insurance and registration (in vehicle), money..preferably Travelers Checks (can be replaced if lost or stolen)……coolers, utensils, clothes etc….

Bring a big cooler and pack it with plenty of drinks and sandwich makings so that you can picnic on the way! You can bring guns as long as you bring the license with you. It takes 4 – 5 days to drive from the East coast (S. Carolina) to Washington State….not sure how far Alaska is from there. If you get the chance spend some time in Idaho and Washington….those states are gorgeous and the fishing is great.

if you’re travelling the alcan highway, make sure you bring along several spare tires. very rough road at times and very isolated.

I would take an SUV and no guns. Bring a nice big cooler filled with sanwiches, chips and sodas for snackes so you don’t have to stop and eat, its going to take a while to get there, but it sounds like fun!

Sounds like fun. I live near Pittsburgh, can I go too?
For a vehicle, I recommend a full-size passenger van or conversion van. You get comfortable seats and sit up straight. There is lots of interior space so you can move around inside.

You can get a Chevy Express with four wheel drive and trailer towing upgrades. A six foot box trailer should be big enough to carry clothing and gear. Take clothing, first aid kit, emergency radio, GPS locator, cell phone, food, tents, sleeping bags.

Depending on where you go in Alaska, the one way distance could be about 5,000 miles. Limit your driving to less than 600 miles a day. At that rate, you will be driving 11 to 12 hours a day, which is pretty tiring for anyone. Figure on 8 to 10 days of travel time, if you don’t do sight seeing along the way.
