is it legal for a 15 year old kid to carry a gun in montana?
Byok, so the legal age to hunt by yourself in montana is 14, and it is legal to shoot guns on national forest property as long as your not in a campground, so is it legal for a 15 year old to openly carry a rifle or shotgun or possibly even a handgun on national forest land without the weapon concealed if he is being really safe and took hunters saftey and everything. thanks

you should check with your local law enforcement and not rely on the answers of yahoo answers for that question
really if its not allowed and someone tells you its okay you can get in a lot of trouble

the rifle or shotgun i doubt you will have an issue. my cousin hunts utah with shotgun alone all the time and i pack guns around here in idaho all the time. one day i was out shooting and the town cop came and shot with me. it was pretty fun and he had to shoot and do his weekly shooting.
maybe like stated just go and ask your local law inforcement and such
and then it always depends on the cop/fish and game. if its an old timer hell probably just talk to you and let you be but if its one of these new right outta training cops or such they tend to like to wave their badge and may give you crap.

You legally have to be 16 to “carry” a shotgun, 18 for a rifle, and 21 for a pistol

according to opencarry.org, both age to open carry and legality of opencarry is 14.

The guy above beat me to it. I like visiting for questions like this.
HOWEVER – there is more to this. The pistol and all ammo must be supplied by a parent our guardian. No ifs, ands, or buts.
That – any need to verify that the national park/national forest land you are going has not changed their policy after the new rules that went into effect on Feb 22, 2010. Although these new rules were suspose to allow firearms on all the national parks and forests – they are now enforcing laws that you cannot discharge the firearm. And, they have made parts of the national park/forest no gun zones – these are almos always the main office, booths, training and viewing area buildings. You don’t have a car – that means you bring that pistol or rifle into the main office to ask a question or use the men’s room – you have violated federal law.
The worse part about all this – the National Park Service – has page after web page of the same looking web pages you can’t find any information on anything from. Unless you have seen a web page and know for a fact it exists – you will never find the rules you want. So – you really need to have a small chat with one of the park rangers – and be sure to the get name of the ranger and write it down – before you go.
