You are old enough that it is not required, but I would suggest some kind of safety training. Mi just requires a drivers license if you are over 18.

You are old enough to buy a long gun without any Hunters Safety Course but you were born after the date where all hunters must take the HSC prior to hunting in any state. I am not sure how the Feds did it but some time back they got all 50 states to enact a law that said if your were born after a certain date you have to have HSC to purchase any kind of hunting license. I forget the date but think it was in the early mid 1970s. Anyone born after that date must have a HSC Card to purchase any kind of hunting license.

I do not believe that you have to go through a hunters education course to purchase a handgun in Kansas. You do, however, have to pass a hunters education course if you wish to do any hunting in Kansas. I would recommed that if you have little to no experience with firearms or hunting that you go ahead and take a course (usually it will just take one weekend out of your life to sit and listen to someone ramble).

i would just take a hunters safety course to be on the safe side
you have 2 options- take the online class or a actual class
just go to your state’s DNR website and it should have it somewhere on the site too.
some states you have to pay for the online class, but when i took mine, i didn’t have to
also, if you take the online class (only takes about a 2 days) you’ll have to print off a form at the very end of your online course and have a DNR officer or county extension officer (that’s who signed mine) sign it.
but each state is different, so for GA, its different than KS
