I dont know ….I just stand around an abandoned park with a paper sack full of pieces of bread tosing it up in the air yelling, Duck, duck, duck and that seem s to work for me!
But I’ll try the black tarp thing too! sounds alot easier!

I have heard of the black tarp. I always broke a hole in the ice or look for a hole where the wind or tide has drifted the tide from the shore.

You will need flat bottom decoys for ice or build a little box under the decoy and around the keel from some 2×2′s and paint it black or camo or decoy color.

If you break a hole in the ice drop your decoys in……try to push the chunks under the ice to make clear water or scope the ice out.

Yes I have heard of that but only seen blue tarps used on ice and in farm fields. Ducks are funny at times, had a friend who had a light blue metal roof installed on his cabin. And believe it or not ducks and geese would try to land on it in the fall. lol

I’ve seen it work with a blue tarp, but if it’s even a little windy, you are going to have a problem holding the tarp down.
