Hunters in our woods?

By

Okay, so about a week ago around midnight, we heard gunshots nearby. It turns out that there were people hunting, no more than fifty feet from our house! They said they were hunting deer, now I don’t know what seasons you can hunt deer in, but I thought it was illegal to hunt them at night. We have a lot of land and every acre or so, there’s a no hunting/trespassing sign. And first they lied and said their dogs got loose, but you don’t go looking for your dog in a orange vest with a gun and a big flashlight. We called the police, but by the time anyone got here, they were gone. It really bugged me and I want to know if there’s any extra punishment for hunting so close to a house, just in case these idiots are caught, I want to be able to laugh about their sentence.

What state you live in?

I don’t know of any one who hunts at night! Think about it.

Most states say you cannot hunt at night. Big difference between hunters and poachers. Regardless, shooting a firearm at night is very dangerous and irresponsible. And in most states there are laws protecting built-up (urban areas).

I would advise calling the police next time this happens.

What they were doing is called Spot Lighting and it is illegal in every state for deer. These dirt bags were trespassing, poaching and probably drinking.

Few states have regulations about how close to a dwelling one can shoot but no ethical hunter would hunt near a house much less spot light.

They probably won’t come back but if they did I would make a citizens arrest and hold them for police.

Sadly, its unlikely to be harsh punishments for these jackasses, even if they get arrested and convicted.

In the dark, armed, trespassing and possibly drunk doesn’t add up to safety. I know you want to protect your land and family, but think twice before going out and confronting them.

Stay save.
