How old do you have to be to take a hunters safety class?
Okay, I want to go hunting tomorrow. And my dad said that he don’t know if I have to have a hunters safety class. But he don’t know how old you have to be when you take a class.
So how old do you have to be to take a class. And I’m 12 so do I have to have a class. I think you have to be 15 to take a class.

you can be 11 and take is as long as your 12 by the time hunting seasons start.
Here you can take them at 9 or 10, you can bow hunt at 10 and gun hunt at 12. You can can the class well before you can acutally hunt.

Go to the store and apply for an apprentice hunting license, if your state has them.

You can take it as early as 9yrs old.
YES YOU MAY GO HUNTING WITH YOUR FATHER OR ANY ADULT WHO HAS A LICENSE
Many states do NOT require a youth hunter to have their hunter safety class if they are hunting along with a hunter who is at least 21 years old and has a valid hunting license.
In my home state anyone may take the course at ANY AGE but is noted the course is based on a 6th grade reading level.
You must have completed this course before purchasing a hunting license. Here 15 and younger do not need a hunting license.

West Virginia Hunter Education Program
All persons born on or after January 1, 1975 must first successfully complete a certified hunter education course before purchasing a hunting license.
No you do NOT have to take hunter safety before you can hunt with you father. But you will when you turn 15 in order to buy a license.

Generally, you can be any age to take the class. But, you must pass the class/test before you will be issued a hunting license. I took mine at age 11.
I am an Alaskan Certified Hunter Safety Instructor.
You do not need a hunter ed card to go with your dad hunting. In most states you do not need a license unless you are at least 16.
The hunter safety requirements usually kick in when you want to take a big game animal of your own and you need your own tag. You do not need this class if you are just going to go with your dad and help or, shoot small game under license like grouse and rabbits.
Part of the Hunter Safety class is firearms qualifications. Although there is no age limit – I have seen allot of 10 and 11 year old boys take the class only to fail the 22 shooting part. They are just not big enough to hold the rifles. Some places have small ‘chipmonk’ rifles. Most 12 year old and older have no problems passing the class and the shooting portion.
