How can I find a full-time job in New York City?

By

I am moving in October 1 with a friend in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I won’t be asked to pay rent the first month considering I won’t have an income so I’m thankful that I have this opportunity… but I was just looking for a little advice from city dwellers or anyone who thinks that they can be of help.

My only job experiences are in retail so I can’t really go above and beyond quite yet…. so what should I look for, where should I look, and how should I expect the job hunt to go within a month’s time?

Thanks.

Do it the old fashioned way: hit the pavement

Watch out with the online applying…it works sometimes, but now that EVERYONE is into it, I don’t think bosses see people face to face anymore, and it may be an, “old school” refreshing change for them to have people inquire in person (of course being realistic, it does not always work this way, so don’t rule out the online thing either)…..you may want to use the job search engines for job leads though…

Once you apply in person (since it’s retail), make sure to show them that you really want to job by following up…don’t be afraid to be persistent (notice I state PERSISTENCE…not STALKING).

and…

Look up all of the temp agencies in that area and apply to as many as possible….it’s better to work as a temp and have some money coming in than to have nothing at all coming in.

I’m excited for you…wish I could do the same as I would love to move to a vibrant metropolis like NY…or at least near it….

…feel free to drop me a line to let me know how it’s going, I’d be happy to help in any way I can (except monetarily…hey, just keepin’ it real).
