How are you supposed to send in the leg of a turkey you’ve killed during the fall hunting season in New York?
ByNew York State Hunting regulations state that you must save one leg from any turkey you kill during the fall season and send it in for cateloging purposes. How are you supposed to save it? Do you freeze it and send it in the mail raw? Do you cook it? Do you just send in the bone? How does that work?

it says instructions will be provided but I have to field dress it and need to know how I’m going to cut it up way before I’ll ever be back at a computer to report the harvest

I believe they’re referring to the foot more or less. But check your states DNR website for more information.

I see no reference to it unless your tag so states. Read below and call your local DNR office.

What? That’s nuckin futz.
How would they expect you to send in a leg if you wanted to have the bird mounted by a taxidermist?
Of course, some years back the Pennsylvania Game Commission came up with the not-so-bright idea of having hunters use a knife and split a deer’s ear open to attach the deer tage. Taxidermists had to charge an extra $75 to make the needed repair on the deer mounts.
