Do you have any good or bad camping memories?

Im going camping for my first time this summer, im totally stoked. Just curious about some stories. We have plans for fishing, hiking, hunting and just try not to get eaten by bears or trampled by a moose lol (alaska)

well a few years ago, my cousin and i were some of the last at the camp fire, and it seemed to be a clear night out, we were staying about 100 yards off of a small lake, so we decided to sleep outside on the beach, but had to use his rain fly as a tarp so our sleeping bags wouldnt get wet.
i woke up at 3 am and saw some flashes in the distance, so we had to get up and put everything back, and find our site, within 5 min of getting back in my tent it starts to downpour went on to be a great camp trip, but ive never been on a bad one.
I enjoy camping now for many years and i remember the first time i went camping, it was a nightmare, there were so many things i forgot to bring, and setting up my tent was really bad, i might suggest that before you go camping, set up your tent in your back yard and if you can sleep in it for a night, now make yourself a list of every thing you might need, its a good idea to be prepared, you want your camping trip to be fun and not a night mare.
Good Luck.
hahha. Funny thing…some of your worst experiences are sometimes your best memories.
I used to work as a wilderness therapy staff, and some of our kids were a real pain in the butt…but then when you find a way to reach them, well…
I also will never forget my first hike that I led with a map and compass. It was mid summer in E Texas and I thought I was going to die. I had never understood things until that day, then my co worker got sick and it was up to me. SO I had to remember what I had never learned, and get about 10 teens through the forest. When we found that campsite, I was sobbing in huge heaves and about to collapse. But I never forgot how again.
I also had one hell of a time climbing my first and only mountain, but I sure am glad I can say I did it.
Then there was the night that I set up my shelter all wrong and woke up in a puddle. Ev-er-y-thing was wet, I was soaked through. Night? Did I say night as in one singular night? I meant this happened to either me or one of my camp kids more times than I can count and I got wet every time…because I had to either fix my own shelter, or help a kid fix theirs.
I have tons of memories. Do have fun, but push yourself too! See what you are made of!
lol one time i slelpt in a tent that i got from walmart and woke up and i waasn’t in my tent i guess i sleep walk but i walked back to my tent and it was cleaned out werid!
When i was on my first canoe trip in Algonquin Park, Ontario we started at lake Openongo, which in the largest lake in the park, we were going against the wind and waves, we got 3 quarters across the lake to our first portage when we got caught in a current, and the canoe flipped, my husband had lost his fishing pole in the bottom of the lake. The other couple turned around and saw us floating in the water, they tried to tow the canoe to a little island that was close by, cause we could not be able to get back in with the big swells moving us around. To our luck there was a water taxi that had just dropped some paddlers off at the portage, he saw us, and helped us out. We just decided to stay on the little island till the next morning, cause a rain storm was rolling in. The rest of the canoe trip was a work out, the water was choppy, and a hard paddle. But we learned fast how to move with the water, cause we didn’t flip again. I would not say that the trip was bad, it was a work out, but to this day we do a canoe trip every year to Algonquin cause now we know what we can handle. We were on a lazy river, when we came around a bend we saw a moose and her calf just eat off to the side, we were only 3m away, it was amazing to see. But first off when i saw them i could not help but say “Holy shit its a moose” and i am a farm girl. The other couple got a good laugh at it. I never thought that i would like to do canoe trips, but we have made it our hobby.
On my first camp outing with a large party of 30 men we were shot at
with several weapons. I had a personal firearm but never fired it. About
a dozen men clustered around me and we laid fully prone in dry woods.
All got about 2 hours of catnap in rotation of 4 men each. There was no
explanation afterward on who blazed at whom. I was happy to walk away.
got a great one for one. In the 80′s i was camping with my family i was only about 6-7 years old still remember this though. this all happend on the same day. Me and my older sister were just being kids she was 8-9 and we were just running around the campsite when i yelled at my sister she turned her head to look at me still running and just as she turned her head back around she ran into a tree face first. Later that night (should have added we were camping in a tent) my dad was sleeping. And my sister and my mother and I were just hanging out around the fire. My dog must have ate something there that didnt agree with her, She just backed her butt up into the tent and pooped too bad that was right where my dads’ face was.
