Creative ideas for girl’s 5th birthday party?
ByHi! My little sweetie is turning 5 at the end of May. We know we would like a special party, and we’d like to invite all 14 children in her class.
The problem is, we live in a city without many resources for children, so I’m having a hard time coming up with good ideas. Can you help me add to my list?
So far, what’s “out” is MacDonald’s (there’s one of those this weekend for the children) and swimming/bowling (there’s too many children and they’re too little), and a movie (too quiet!).
I’d like to have a party where the kids can be free and play and dance – they have to be so quiet in school, so I want them to have a blast! I also think that with that many children, having it outside of home would be best, but we can if we have to, especially if we come up with an amazing idea!).
So far I’ve got:
- wagon ride at a farm (but the farm is really run-down…not so sure)
- treasure hunt and games at a park (but, we’re in trouble if it’s cold or rainy and it will be hard to keep track of all of those kids in the open)
Thank you all soooo much for any ideas!
(:
(I posted here cuz the ladies and friends in Newborn and Baby are so helpful and clever!)
pumpkins – I loooove that idea. It could be like a pizza and pop dance.
Do you think people will think it’s too far out for a 5 year old’s party? I can be known to go overboard (who me??).

Well, maybe just look into renting a cheaper hall or party room. I wouldn’t rent an upscale place, but something middle of the row.
Then you can personally decorate however you like. Prepare a buffet style snacks for the child. Perhaps pre arrange for something like either a clown (corny, I know, but kids that age would love it) or else a children DJ that specializes in that sort of music.
Keep it really unstructured. Especially if you want the kids to have a good time and be loud and laugh and play. Think up a few simple games, to do whenever, set up a little dance floor for them, and then let them go to town and run the show.

Can you rent some animals from the farm to have at the party? We did the petting zoo and pony rides for Peyton’s party and all the kids had a ton of fun. I even heard some of the kids say it was the best party they’ve been to. All of the kids in our family and our friend’s kids are older than Peyton, a lot older so it worked out. Peyton actually enjoyed it too. We also had a jump house and pinatas are always fun. We played bingo and got them some nice outdoor prizes. We were going to play musical chairs but we ran out of time.

Oooh do it at home, it’s a little more personal that way… that is if you can! I’d rent a bouncy house thing and put it up in your back yard if you have the room. Do a “Dance party” filled with oldies, fun kids music, pop and a little rock. You can even rent a DJ that specializes in childrens music. The kids can dance their butts off, go wild in your back yard. You could even do a little bar be que while this is going on and let them do their own hot dogs and hamburgers… then do an ice cream sundae and cupcake bar!! Go to your local candy store and get all the goodies, sour worms, chocolate, colorful sprinkles, licorice and then mix different colors of icing. Then let them decorate their own ice cream sundaes with everything and anything they can think of, and allow them to decorate a cup cake. You could even do some finger painting or edible play dough!! Kids love to create so I’m sure they’ll have a blast. Geez, I wanna come to your party LOL! Just some ideas thrown out there for ya!! If it’s at your house, it may reck a little havoc on your house but at least you won’t have to monitor 15 kids being out and about…. some parents may be wary of that. I hope all goes well for ya!

Do you have a big backyard? Or a big enough one that would hold a couple of kiddie-sized pools, some sprinklers, or a slip n slide? You could also do water balloons. Then you could just BBQ outside but you’d still have the shelter of your house incase it rains.
Or what about taking them to an indoor gym? We have a couple here in town that are designed for smaller children(one called Monkey Business, lol). I’m not sure what your budget is, though, that could get pricey.

The simpler the better, at that age th love things like musical bobs, pass the parcell etc, lots of ballons blown up but just left on the ground for them to run a muck with.

What about a Pottery Party?
Here is a link:
I know its not in your area, im just giving you a general idea of a Pottery Party. You could check your local phone book and see if there is anything for something like this in your town! I think the kids would have a blast getting to paint and create something, and it would be a great keepsake for all the children, including the BIRTHDAY GIRL! Plus, it would be a learning experience and would be great either way for weather- rain or shine!
