Personally, I think someone should tie their feet together and spear them.

Griffin – If animals were made for us to eat, we would have physical features to hunt and kill animals, e.g sharp strong teeth, claws, ability to run fast like a predator.
Also we would have a digestive system that can fully digest animals and its by-products without struggle, and animal meats and by-products would’nt have life threatening effects on the body e.g provoking diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

Where did it all go wrong? Everyone was peaceful until the temptation of something different occurred. Proper behavior was a priority, once that fell so did structure. War, betrayal, and death followed without question. Groups that were once whole soon separated, feuds developed and, the past was remembered and held against each other. Old priorities were forgotten, seemingly required things were tossed out and new, flimsy rules were made quickly; although these new rules were flimsy and aimless. Does this sound familiar yet? It should, it is many things; human past, The Bible, and lately it seems like Lord of the Flies by William Golding is the one relating to the present world most. What are these sudden changes caused by? Could it be temptation? Or is it rather pressure to survive, to be the best, live the longest, or the most powerful of them all…demolishing your enemies. The development of savagery depends on the amount one is revealed to it, but falling to the awesome temptation is inevitable.
A big character who falls to temptation is Ralph. While throughout most of the book his priority is to keep the signal fire alive along with its connection to their old world yet, he still falls into savagery without a doubt. Throughout the book you can observe his gradual dive into savagery, although he is much slower to fall to temptation than say Jack, he without a doubt still does. “Ralph waved the conch. ‘Shut up! Wait! Listen! He went on in the silence, borne on his triumph […] we must make a fire.’”(38). ¬¬This quote is relatively closer to the beginning of the book when Ralph still has control and the conch is still a powerful figure. But later in the book the conch is forgotten during the heat of hunting where instinct takes over and savagery grabs control of the situation:
Ralph was full of apprehension and pride. ‘I hit him! The spear stuck in-’ Now they came, unexpectedly, to an open space by the sea. […] ‘I hit him,’ said Ralph again, ‘and the spear stuck in a bit.’ He felt the need of witness. ‘Didn’t you see me?’
Ralph, unknowingly just started his descent. He feels that “hunting is not so bad after all” and keeping the fire lit is pushed farther back into his mind. The fire represents civilization, and when civilization becomes less important…savagery fills in its place.
Jack is also another very important character because he is the first one to begin turning savage. In the beginning of the book when Ralph was chosen over Jack in the election for a leader he already thought that things were wrong. He did not like the idea of being ruled over at all. So he had to make his own group; the hunters. During the first hunting scene, he really was the only one in the action, sure Ralph was there but Jack had the opportunity to legitimately kill a pig, something nobody else would have. However, he crumbled under the pressure not being able to actually take a life:
“I was going to,” said Jack. […] “I was choosing a place. Next time-!” He snatched his knife out of the sheath and slammed it into a tree trunk. Next time there would be no mercy. He looked round fiercely, daring them to contradict.
