I think you have to be at least 18 years old, have no felonies, have proper ID and have the money to pay for the gun. If you meet these criteria, you should have no problem in buying the .22 rifle that you want.
When you say .22 Caliber are you meaning .22 Rimfire? Rimfire rifles are illegal for anything but small game in Texas. This limits you to rabbit, hare & squirrel. It is not legal to hunt bird with a rifle either. Big game is consider peccary (javalina as the smallest of the big game) to Moose in North American. I’m not sure about armadillo, but I wouldn’t shoot a ‘dillo anyway.
Centerfire .22s are legal for big game but use some common sense. Match your caliber/rifle to your game. ALL .22s (rimfire & centerfire) are simply too small for deer & larger size game. The minimum deer rifle is the .243 & the .25-06 is actually your better choice.
Now, if you are otherwise able to own/possess a firearm, you can hunt in Texas with a .22 so long as you observe the game laws. Exceptions are: Convicted felons; family violence (misdemeanor or felony) violators; people otherwise illegally in the State or county.
As long as you are not a convicted felon you should have no problem.
