This is a tremendous invention! I was a pro chef for about 15 years.

The customary way to sharpen knifes was a steel and or flat stone.

I have bought and used various “sharpening systems” and had ex-

pensive electric diamond sharpeners. However, this device is the

fastest, cheapest, and best one I have ever used. It puts a very

sharp edge on all knives (almost razor sharp), and sharper than any

0 electric sharpener out there. And for the average 8″ chefs knife,

takes about 20 seconds! Get one of these and you will be amazed

how something so simple works so well.

Do not, repeat, DO NOT buy some 0+ electric knife sharpener that may or may not be any good. I got a tip on this from Cook’s magazine, which reviewed several products and rated this the top manual sharpener. (By the way, Cook’s definitely did not recommend the dumb Rachael Ray-sponsored sharpener with the curvy blades and high price tag.) For about , this product honed my fancy German knives, and also the old knives I’ve had for 20 years (chicago cutlery/faberware kinds of knives) that have been dull for a decade. After 20-30 strokes with the tungsten sharpener, those knives were cutting paper like on a Ginsu infomercial (though I didn’t try them on a beer can)! I can’t say it loud enough–buy this, and you will not be sorry. In fact, buy it for yourself, and get one for anyone you know who appreciates a sharp edge when chopping vegetables.

As a Technical Services librarian, I’m constantly looking for a small screwdriver to open a computer case, a little wrench to loosen a laminator bolt, a knife to open a box… But I’ve been uncomfortable carrying a large multi-tool. I saw this on someone’s list of “Tools Every Geek Should Own” and decided to try it. When I first got it, I was surprised at how small it is – but it really is useful! This little gem fits in a pocket very easily, clips to a belt loop, and has lots of useful things attached. My li’l guppy has everything I need, nothing I don’t, and it makes a great keychain. Yes, it’s a little heavier (like, grams heavier) than a standard keychain, but I don’t even notice it. I’ve given away 4 so far as gifts to people who have totally geeked out on mine the moment they saw it – and that’s not counting the several managers at my job who have bought them for themselves. Seriously – you can’t go wrong with this tool. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

SOG Specialty Knives & Tools B66-N Power Assist Knife, Black Oxide Reviews

I purchased this a a gift for my father and I own the same tool in the plain stainless steel finish. It’s a great multi-tool. Super durable and just plain beefy. If you’re looking for a light little pocket knife/tool this probably isn’t it. Maybe a Leatherman Squirt or even a SOG Paratool. The black finish is actually a lot nicer than the stainless steel because it doesn’t show fingerprints as badly. I have found that this tool has replaced my daily carry pocket knife (a SOG Flash II) for a couple of reasons. First, the pair of assisted blades. Having a quick choice between the straight or serrated blades rather than having both in one blade is nice. The other thing is that carrying a multi-tool rather than a dedicated pocket knife tends to be less intimidating to people in the general public. When I pull out the Flash II people’s eyes tend to widen a little and they make snarky comments. The PowerAssist blends right in as just another tool for most people and the only raised eyes and comments have been from folks admiring the thing.

The fold-out tools are of the same super high quality and the locking mechanism works well. I also appreciate the V-Cutter for cutting paracord, straps, etc. I wish there was a more elegant way to operate the little cover that goes over the tools, but it serves it’s purpose well in allowing a very comfortable grip on the pliers.

This thing makes an awesome gift. My father received his and called me within minutes of opening to talk about how nice it was and how he’d probably never need another multi-tool again. It will definitely be appreciated by those who are handy, or who work on machines for a living. Although, one of the things my dad mentioned was that he wasn’t sure when he would ever need the blasting cap crimper, but hey, ya can’t win ‘em all.

Great tool, 5 stars, you will not be sorry that you purchased this tool and the price on Amazon pretty much cannot be beat.

This tool is very well thought and Innovative. It has like engrains, that makes that the force you apply to the handle gets multiplied to the front end.

The finish is like a perfect black hand-gun. The blade opens in a mazing. Yous push a litle with your thumb and it pops out, like an automatic folding knife.

The tools inside are replacebel by the user! you juts buy the components you need from the web site and buy them, I’ve never seen this in a pocket tool.

The piano lock is very clever. Compared to the Victorinox, maybe it looks a little more like “feminine” or “shiny”, the SOG looks like on testosterone. Looks terrific, impressive, intimidating almost.

The Leatherman is the worst in finish, and material quality. I broke my leatherman, the fine flat screwdriver, after somewhat 5 uses… and I was using it properly (I take care of tools)…The leatherman feels like sticky to open, even after quite some time.

Every where you look, you find ingenious and well thought details.

The pliers are more process than anything I have seen, each tiny tooth engrains perfectly with its negative par on the other jaw.

Gerber 05500 MP400 Compact Sport Multi-function Tool Reviews

I am in the Army and currently serving in Iraq. Being here I have received several different models of multi-tools by manufacturers such as SOG, Leatherman, Kershaw, and Gerber. This particular Gerber is by far my favorite and the only one that I brought from home. It contains the tools that I need most, and is at a size that I find comfortable to wear on my belt and it’s being there does not interfere with the fit of my body armor or other equipment. I’m amazed at how often the scissors come in handy too. I thought that a goofy thing to have until I got this tool, and now I cannot imagine not having them handy. The pliers are just the right size for most jobs, and the cutters are just fine for cutting the bands off of equipment when needed. For my money Gerber has a winner here and if I ever lose this one I will replace it with the same model.

The Gerber Compact sport is one of the best knives I have ever used from the one-hand opening to the locking blades. With the flick on your wrist, you are ready to do anything. The advantage between this and Lethermen is that you don’t have to dig for your pliers. The Gerber knife is also good if you have kids because they can’t get into it. With the pliers in the handles, it is next to impossable to open. The disagvantages Gerber are the price, and it is harder to get to the tools in your knife.
