i have one of those little metal hatcets. its alright but the handle is quite uncomfortable so i pelled the rubber off and put a big length of duct tape on for a handle and now its comfortable to chop with.

if you play electric guitar you can use the strings from them as snares:)

5

hatchet. large knives are good, but not enough forward weight. you can do it though. it really comes down to how you feel. i like hatchet, med to large knife, and a small carver. just my .02 though

6

why not just get a cheap sharpener, lighter, better. diamond not stone.

7

Simple, easy to follow ideas. I appreciate your time and effort in making these videos. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

8

These items are on clearance today and were expected to sell for christmas this is why they are so cheap and you have many choices for many differnt kits.

9

Recent finds at walmart were all winchester knives or tools . Multi tool spring loaded sharp knives great multitool for a pack has a quality file $2.50

Winchester package of 4 knives $4the package contains the rip off swiss army quality file sharp knife phillips/flat screw driver only thing missing was the tooth pick,,,,, a smaller ripoff swiss army a nice lock blade and a small double blade jack knife. All these knives have wooden handles.

I noticed that Robert Fraser is showing one of these in one of the videos on your channel. Did you guys decide that they weren’t worth it?

11

Keepin’ it real & keepin’ it true!!
Salute!

12

those cheap metal handle axes suck because the handle is actully hollow and can snap also the rubber grip slips down a little with each strike. i know from experience

13

Great stuff brother please keep up the good work, My and I will be going out to learn some of your bushcraft together. There seems to be a lot of ego that goes with talking about bushcraft.
In another video you spoke about how nobody knows it all and learning this is a continueing process. So if the opther brothers and sisters reading this should check their ego, teach the ignorant and learn from each other.

super glue wood be a great addition brother, Real strong for fixing stuff, works great for wounds that would otherwise need stitches

15

Davecanterbury forever!

Ps, I’ve had that exact file for years and I’ve got to tell you, it can’t do JACK SHIT on metal, it’s only good for wood.

16

With your 4in1 file you also have gotten an excellent fire steel. Find yourself a flint or a quartrzite and make sparks.

17

got a mag striker from wally world
didn’t cost much I also got a smith’s knife sharpener althou I rather use a stone . I went to a store that seem to be limited on outdoor stuff . I goto another one later .

18

i’m a dapper dan man …

A way to get paraffin and/or candles cheaply is to ask your local thrift store to hold them for you. They throw out rather than sell the ones which come in which are partially used. So have them set them aside for you. I filled a 5 gallon bucket in about 3-4 weeks. They love to save them rather than throw them out.

20

I really enjoy your videos, and have learned alot of use full techniques. Thank you for your time..and please keep making good vids…

Your so gay 19echo. I’m a 45 year old combat veteran , who served his country to maintain his right to smoke pot if he want to.You are hardly a man of your word …”I’ll not respond to your comments again,as it has become useless”. I’m sure your arrogance had over ridden your honor as a man to be true to your word…..And all this because I think a standard KA-BAR knife is under weight and I would chose a hatchet over it. The agent orange is going to your brain man, get help from the VA..!!

22

There are why too many adolescents like you ( who subscribe to FRED ) who are allowed ( probably don’t know who their Dad is ) to own cell phones and computers, and mommy don’t care enough about you to see what type of mischief your into. So you’ll grow older ( not wiser) and live in your mom’s house till one day you get busted for drugs for the 3rd time and get a term in prison where you WILL BE TAUGHT to be submissive by some 300lb convict. Understand?

From the man who would bring a hydrolic log splitter to process wood in a survival situation, thats an odd comment. I knew your arrogance would require an attempt at a lofty response. Ask your wife about 420 bro, maybe she could pass you a J and it would help you cool out and chill. Im glad you are the be all and end all survival expert with the ability to criticize comments on survival videos. Oh great guru of the woods, please lead my boyscout troop!!!

24

It’s apparent to me that you have grown up with out a father, and you may not have ever been in the woods, or much less read a book on survival. I’d be glad to recommend a few very good books for you to read, but my wife tells me that you most likely wouldn’t read or even buy them. She says to ask if you know what “420″ means in drug user circles. I’ll not respond to your comments again, as it has become useless. Hope you grow up soon.

25

And lets look at the question once again (what do you think is better a hatchet or a KA-BAR? if you had to pick one.”) my answer was not the KA-BAR its under weight..thats my answer, you have a difference answer 19Echo. your M.O.S. in the army must have been arrogance, where do they offer that A.I.T. anyway? they must have discontinued it . Or you might have the golf war syndrome, arrogance is one of the symptoms, I hope you get better soon!!
