I am looking for pellets that will quickly and humanely kill small game, such as squirrels and crows. what would be the best type of pellet (.177 caliber) for this?

There is no simple answer to this question! Debates about best pellets & best calibre, .177 or .22, have raged for years. Round head or pointed pellets are good all purpose hunting pellets. Whats more important is to experiment with different makes of pellets available to you to find what’s most accurate at the ranges you hunt. The tighter the target practice grouping, the better trained you are for humane kills such as head shots. Different airguns seem to shoot different pellets more accurately than others.

Generally speaking wadcutter and domed transfer the most energy into a target. Pointed over penetrate (exit) and hollow point don’t expand much. As for a specific pellet, your gun is going to like 1-2 pellets best. The only way to find out is experimentation.

    >>Best pellet for hunting>.177 for small game(rabbit, squirrel)JSB Exact Domed are very good as are H&N Field and Target…

    >>.177 for crows / pest birdsOthers include, H&N Wadcutters(8.2gr), Gamo Match(7.7gr), RWS Hobby(7.0gr), etc

The flat or domed are better, the pointed ones look better, but don’t transfer energy as well.
For years I used pointed, then I tried flat and it honestly felt like a whole new gun, they just smack into small game.
Gamo match or pro match are good, anything flat.
The beauty with .177 is that you can buy all the brands cheaply and trial yourself
