As a vegan would you eat meat from detrimental alien species…?

Was watching a show on pacific islands the other day. Some are being decimated by introduced alien species like possums, rats, and pigs wipe out native species.

The aim here isn’t to question someone’s veganism, it’s to think of a market force that could fund the removal of alien species from threatened habitats.

If there were a program to hunt out the invasive species to protect and preserve the native species; would you purchase and eat the meat to support the program?

For the inevitable “just trap and relocate” response: Would you pay for the entrapment and relocation of 1 animal for each time you would have alternatively eaten a meal containing meat if you were not vegan? (say 5-7 animals a week). Keep in mind that trapping and relocating is an order of magnitude more expensive.

Maybe $30 a week to eat hunted meat, and $200 a week to relocate the same number of animals.

It seems to me that the “least harm principle” shouldn’t just apply to not doing harm, but also to reversing harm already done.
As an additional note: Just as an example there are an estimated 70 million Common Brushtail Possums in new zealand. Just one of many non-indigeneous species there.

There wouldn’t really be any reason for them TO change their lifestyle.

There’s plenty of other people who would gladly help in this situation by eating the animals.

Thank goodness this is not about aliens from Mars, I had a friendly that it was, thank goodness I was wrong.

to answer your question. I would not purchase and eat the animals. I would help trapping humanely and relocating the animals, but I would not help in the killing nor eating of them. There would be plenty of people eating them. And if everyone was doing this then it would not take that long to relocate that animals. Specially if they try to keep it gender pacific like only trapping the female population and moving them. While living the male population for the people that choose to eat the animal or to die of natural death

NO. There is no health value that includes eating animal flesh of any kind.

Okay, so you mean non-native or non-indigenous. And no I wouldn’t eat them, since I find meat repugnant. I already do trap and relocate animals, and I would continue to do that.

Honestly, no, just because I wouldn’t fully understand the situation and can’t face breaking veganism. On ethical terms, it seems exceptable but probably not for me.

Not many people from the western world would eat a common brushtail possum, vegan or not.
