    Score one for the evolutionists!

  2. Gazoo says:

They are certainly getting more creative in their tool usage.

  3. Gothic Angel says:

The implications are obvious: we shall soon find ourselves with an enemy that we cannot defeat.

And yeah, evolving means to change. If chimps are getting smarter, they are changing.

  4. Bryan says:

If they are, that would contradict Evolution. I can’t even count how many times Evolutionist have bashed people that said something like “Why are there still chimps?” You can’t have both peices of the pie.

  5. Kallan says:

Yet another proof of evolution.. thanks!

  6. ♥Servant_of_God♥ says:

Shouldn’t this question be in the science section?!
The Chimp used a pointed stick one time to poke at something, until they can find a chimp widdling the stick and on more than one occasion using it as a tool, this story is just a nice thought.

    eee eee aa aa aa

    Our president is a chimpanzee.

I read this… but I don’t think they’re evolving (in that way). I think this has something to do with the fact that they are already evolved enough to figure that out. We probably noticed that before, but didn’t understand that it was so elaborate.

There IS a reason humans are called the Third Species of Chimp.

  9. Sho-Nuff Nolte says:

Just wait till the first ape says No.

  10. Tribble Macher says:

Wow they can handle a spear.

  11. PaulCyp says:

Of course chimps are evolving, as are all living species. However, an individual of a species that seems smarter than average has nothing to do with evolution.

Give the chimp a computer and then we can say that they are computer operators!

Pst, don’t tell the aardvarks that the chimps discovered their secret, they get all huffy when someone steals their ideas.

The woodpeckers are bound to find out sooner or later. They thought that they had the whole “spear” tool market cornered.

  13. mnymn177 says:

No someone let the chimps watch Star wars and let them see the ewoks.

  14. Isweedan says:

Evolution doesn’t happen that fast. Chimps, however, do have the ability to learn skills and teach them to each other. What we’re seeing is the beginning of a new phase in chimp civilization. Next thing you know, we’ll have one for president …oh wait…too late.

  15. Elizabeth Howard says:

Maybe it was a regressed human.

Look, it might be a smart chimp but this is not evolution. When lots of chimps start doing it and their cranial capacity increases then we might be talking evolution. But one isolated instance is not evolution.

  16. David M says:

It isn’t that they are evolving, it is that we are just getting to observe more of their natural behaviour. It has been well-known for some time now that chimps are “tool-users” and even create there are tools.

The classic example is a chimp using a twig to stick in an ant nest then pull it out and eat the ants. They also are known to teach this to fellow chimps and pass it on to the children. Evolution is generally a much slower process, although there have been examples of major jumps in just a few generations.

I think we are simply learning more about animals as we improve our ability to observe them in their natural habitat.

it’s very interesting. i read another article where they’ve observed chimps using spears several times, but this is the only case in which they actually killed an animal.
