Are America’s unemployed and “impoverished” just spoiled rotten?

I hunt and trap feral hogs extensively in N.Texas. I was recently calling around to area food banks and shelters, looking for a place to send this year’s left-over meat to make room for more. I was offering roughly 375 lbs of wild pork tenderloins, loins, chops and sausage but couldn’t find a single taker. I had more than a few of the shelters in the DFW area tell me that they wouldn’t take it because feral pigs are “gamey” and their patrons wouldn’t eat it. If people are poor and hungry, why do they get to be so picky? It must be nice to live off the system and be able to pick and choose!

I finally found a church near Greenville, TX to take the meat and I even took it to them.
“Proper food”?

You do realize that wild game is a healthier food source than domesticated animals which are stuffed with corn and other grains to fatten them up as fast as possible and pumped full of growth hormones and pharmaceuticals, don’t you? Oh, you don’t know that…..

Just goes to show how fucked we all are…

America’s “poor” have more living space and amenities with a higher standard of living than all but the richest 20% of Europeans.
Democrats and their ilk abroad, rather than elevating the Europeans, want to bring us down to their level. Note this is not an accusation, it’s what they say about themselves.

  3. Scott H says:

We/they certainly are spoiled. I think a little hunger would be good for America. Just a little.

  4. jack99skellington says:

    Some, nay, many, are.

But that doesn’t mean that many are not. There are plenty of families with children who are going without right now.

  5. Hit Girl says:

Assuming that you process the meat safely, yes people are spoiled rotten. I grew up with a father that hunts. There are many ways to remove the “gamey” taste from meats. Of course no one learns these things anymore. People have become so used to getting what they want VS what they need that it’s just a big joke anymore.

Many people have not ate wild meat before. They dont know what the “wild tang” is. It looks like pork, it taste like pork but it taste kind of funny…makes people wonder what they are eating.

But i think the places you took it may of questioned the source of the food more than what the food was. They have to be careful what they feed people.

  7. cfs says:

That was a choice by the people who run the food banks and shelters not the people who benefit from them. That sounds like ignorance on the people who operate the food banks and shelters.
Yes, the meat might be a bit gamey but it’s still good meat so I don’t see why they’d turn it away especially the sausage because you can cover up the gameness with spices.
I guess I can understand it if there is a safety issue with the meat.

  8. g says:

sounds like they are in Northern Texas at least…

I don’t think it’s quite like that in most areas…

why are the poor in Texas so picky?

  9. Ed says:

    Was the meat FDA inspected?

If not, then no one should have accepted it.

  10. Drew Blood says:

Funny what shelters won’t serve homeless people, yet everybody else pays $20 a plate for a nice loin chop with some potatoes and a glass of reisling.

  11. a little fricking sarcasm says:

Yup. Don’t get me wrong in the US it’s horrible that somebody would be unemployed because it’s the fricking United States and it’s the center of the world’s economy and just about everything else.
That said, nobody in the US is really poor compared to other areas of the world. You might find people picking up recyclables but you’ll never see children climbing on mountains of trash trying to find a place where water might have gathered days earlier. You might see people waiting in line for a free lunch but you’ll never see a woman on a street corner dying of AIDS with no one to help or no hospital within 300 miles.

  12. It is me says:

Have you been to other countries? Especially countries that are not first world nations? I have. Their poor there live horrible lives. Our poor here are rich compared to the “poor” of the world with cell phones and TV’s.

Anyways, I don’t consider that meat you shot gamey. I grew up eating that. Fed us well. If people were really poor and hungry, they wouldn’t complain.

Tania Lynn, there is nothing wrong with eating wild game. People have done it since the dawn of time and still do. Wild animals are better to eat than this medical mutant chicken, pork and cow meat sold at our grocery stores. You consider that proper food?

Oh, and you should also look at how the professional egg industry was paying column writers to slander free range chicken eggeries by saying free range eggs are unhealthy and not nutritional. They were angry that people are resorting to buying real eggs; so they have a campaign going to make people think they need their eggs, produced by chickens with broken beaks, chemically enhanced food and rotting in cages. You consider that proper food? No thanks; I will buy my free range eggs from the farmer down the road.

    The FDA is a joke

    Tania Lynn…………

So you think our digestive systems can handle chemically enhanced food but not wild game? Are you insane? You guys, Tania Lynn is case in point of the dumbing down of our society……we can handel fake burgers from McDonalds, but we can’t handle wild pig. I can’t believe you just said that. People eat wild game, home made cheese, fresh milk, fresh eggs and home grown produce world wide and are fine. Are you saying that you are a mutant and your stomach can’t handle that food, but theirs can? Kudos for proving your sheepish thinking.

No, I am not going to waste any more time with someone who thinks our stomach can’t handle real food anymore. Yet, you can handle mutant chicken and processed “food.” You showed us how naive you are with that comment.

The sad thing about your statement is that some people lost their jobs to no reason than an unstable economy; and you call them spoiled rotten. Watch out, for one day you could be walking in their shoes; and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

  14. Keiff Murray says:

Well BK got those 99 cent double stacks. People aren’t poor and hungry, that is why the poorest people are the fattest. The government pays them and BK has 99 cent double cheese burgers. I think the government might be trying to kill the poor off with double stacks. I don’t know about unemployment, but we should not be paying people that don’t work, like welfare. I think all we should do for the people that don’t work if they got children, is house them and feed them. What the hell do people on welfare need money and a car for, if we just drop food off to public housing built for them. Same thing with collecting from mental disability. Should you really be operating a car?
I think the best welfare strategy is to give them all the cheap nutritious food they could eat, and nothing else.
Wild hog is way better than domestic.

  15. Draco says:

Unemployment Comp used to be 26 weeks. Now, thanks to Obama and the Dems, it’s 99 WEEKS.
Now WHY would someone go through the hassle of looking for 3 jobs a week, spend gas and all the associated effort, when they can “fudge” their claim form because NO ONE checks them out and get what, an average of $200.00 a week ( + – ) ?
This is exactly what Obama wanted, to place more burden on the taxpayers and make citizens reliant on the Feds. And now the Dems want to extend it ANOTHER 26 weeks, BEFORE the new House is seated, because they KNOW the Repubs will slap them down. How much is ENOUGH ? How long do you keep providing an addict with a substitute “drug” ?

  16. Kip Drody has no FB friends. says:

Tania, you are pretty dingy. You think our stomachs can’t handle wild game and real food anymore? In truth, I can’t handle eating half the rubbish sold in stores anymore. Full of sugar, chemicals, enhances and preservatives. I can handle home slaughtered meat and garden produce. I think you really don’t have a good grasp on reality.

  17. Shelley L says:

I’m sure your average hungry person would take it but the food bank just didn’t want to deal with it. I think that was wrong of them. Good for you for trying to do a nice thing, though.

  18. NA says:

First of all God Bless you sir. Don’t let this discourage you! The fact that some of these places are turning down such an abundant source of food says to me that Satan is at work there.

If you live in America, have money in the bank, have money in your pocket, and have change in a jar at home, you are among the richest 8% of people in the world.

I don’t say that the impoverished are spoiled, but they have a LOT more opportunity in America to get out of poverty than anywhere else in the world.

    Good hunting to you!
