@CallerX64 exactly. they run no matter what , ive shot them with 308′s and 30-06′s and i gotta tell u, when it comes to bear hunting, i choose my 30-06, but when its hog hunting, it doesnt matter, unless u hit them in the head they just run away. i use a .223 for hogs.
@aandrew610 .223 is fine for hogs. u want to shoot them in the head with anything anyway, and ive hog hunted with larger guns like 308 and 30-06 , those are large game weapons. They still just run away no matter what you shoot them w ith if u dont break their legs or shoot them in the head. .223 mini14 is actually my hog weapon of choice. open sights.
Negative. Ive gone hog hunting with 243, 270, .308, and even 30-06, and unless u hit it in the head or break its legs, its gonna run. my fire-arm of choice for hog hunting, now, is a ruger mini14 in .223 with 62 grain bimetal boat tail hollow points in a 20 round magazine. open sights, always going for the head shot.
The neck shot hot went 20 yards was trying to head shoot it.. I was out predator calling when we seen the small meat hog 223 works well .. my experience with hod and calibers is this they will suck up the biggest of calibers.. hogs small and large need to be neck or head shot. this is why i didn’t look for a chest shot..
hogs are targets of opportunities for us wile predator calling so they get taken with predator guns.
If i got out to harvest a hog i use my 7mm but head shots only
