My husband, son and I are thinking about moving to South Dakota after he is out of the military. We are currently in Germany. (BLAH) I can’t wait to get back to America. IS South Dakota a good place for family? I love snow and my son loves Indian heritage, My husband loves hunting and fishing. We are church goers and very conservative. Please only honest clean answers.

all I can tell you about S. Dakota is that when my daughter and son-in-law(both marines at the time)lived in Brookings they really liked it.at the time my granddaughter was around four years old.they lived close to a school and a well kept park.there is a university there also.it’s not a real big city but most likely has what your’e looking for.click on Brookings,S.Dakota on your computer and I bet it will give you lots of info.bless you all.
South Dakota offers all of what you’re looking for. We are a rural state with a few cities. SD is sort of divided by the Missouri River creating “West River” and “East River”. West river is more ranching and sparsely populated until you get to the far west and the Black Hills. East River is more farmland with many small towns and a few larger ones. Church functions are still some of the biggest events in some towns. There is great pheasant, deer, duck/goose hunting and great fishing in many of the eastern lakes and especially the Missouri River. There is a Native American presence in our state, but it’s predominantly in Western SD. Sometimes there is snow, sometimes not. I think you would make a wise choice in looking at SD. (The cost of living is low – bonus!!)
I lived there for over a year. I didn’t think (before moving there) that I would like it; surprisingly, I miss it greatly. You will definitely get snow. If you’re looking for Indian heritage it might be better to live in western SD (Rapid City area). We lived in Sioux Falls, it is very conservative and the people are nice. South Dakota takes excellent care of it’s parks and community in general…I would definitely recommend it.
