A 5 y/o boy shoots a 445 lb bear in Arkansas. Are you impressed or disgusted?
Personally, I don’t think a 5 y/o should be out on a hunting trip pulling the trigger of a shotgun. I don’t care how much he is supervised. Last year, he shot and killed 2 deer which means he was only 4 y/o then. The photojournalist sounded so excited about the whole matter reinforcing this strange scenario. What do you think?
To the source: his grandpappy took him out on a hunting trip and told him to shoot the bear. You might still be able to catch the story on Yahoo video. It was on just a while ago.

this is another example of how easy it is for one to obtain a gun. People wonder how these school shooters get their guns, how these people who are listed as mentally unstable get guns. a 5 year old with a gun? that’s just sick. He shouldn’t be celebrated, lock that kid’s parents (if you can call them that) up. Honestly, hunting should just become illegal all together, only supply guns to those who need it.

Disgusted. The poor kid is off to a horrible start in life. He kills something and is praised for it, not only by his parents, but by the press as well. What kind of message is that sending? I wonder how proud they will be of their little boy when he starts shooting humans…
Edit*** I think the issue here is less about hunting and more about arming a five year old and teaching him how to kill.

you didnt tell us the entire story. Where was the boy who gave him the gun how he got it, was the bear about to attack him… So i cant answer.
I’m disgusted. I have never agreed with hunting as a sport and I never will. I have two nephews in the northern part of the US that LIVE for the hunting season and they are both under the age of 18. While I agree with the right to bear arms, that doesn’t mean you have the right to go out and kill anything you want. Five year olds should be worrying about other things….
Why would a 5 year old have a gun to shoot a bear?? The family and media seem so proud. I think law authorities should seek charges against the family. What happens when other young kids see the news video and think that they can take a gun out and shoot something?
I don’t hunt and I feel that five is too young to safely handle a gun even with supervision but — it is none of my business and it is none of the governments’ business. That is solely up to the parents and obviously they are comfortable with it. They will also have to live with the consequences if something goes wrong. There is certainly no direct physical or mental harm to the child being done and hunting is as natural as it gets.
So I am neither impressed nor disgusted; just wary.

I spent some time as a child in the sticks with my family in the northwest USA. Hunting isn’t a sport, it’s culture.
Killing an animal (a scary one like a bear even!) is different than killing a human; it’s mystifying how some of you think they’re the same.
40 to 50 yards is a hard shot, even if it is a bear; give the kid some respect.
I imagine he’ll be a pretty good shot- by the time he enters High School… Perhaps he’ll be on CNN again in ten years; only THIS time he’ll be the Headline…

I am skeptical about this story, the boy was supposed to have used a shot gun to kill this bear, right. I do know that shot guns give one hell of a kick back. I have seen grown men get black and blue shoulders from not holding the gun correctly when shooting. How did this 5 year old boy do this kind of shooting, I really have a hard time believing this story.
